Everyone is looking for more visitors to their websites. Not only more visitors, but the right kind of visitors: visitors who are looking for what you offer.

There are probably hundreds of ways to get traffic to your site, and usually it takes several of them to drive the right kind of traffic. Before being able to get all that traffic there is one item you must do first: you must clearly define who your target market is!

Who is Your Target Market?

Once you know your target market, the easier it will be for you to know where to find them. Before you start driving all that traffic to your site you need to optimize your site in order to reap the benefits of that traffic.

You DO NOT want to lead with your primary business or product. It is essential to first get your visitors contact information, and the best way to do that is to offer a free product or service. It could be an “E-Book” or “Special Report”. It doesn't’t matter what you offer, you just need a way to capture their information and get them into your marketing funnel.

Now Find Them

To find your target market you need to go where they go. Join online networking groups, discussion groups and forums, blogs. Search Yahoo groups and Google groups for your niche market. You can also go to Ryze.com and linkedin.com to find your niche group.

The purpose of joining these groups is to build a relationship with your target market, not to sell them anything. Most groups & lists will allow you to have a e-mail signature where you have an URL listed. Use your capture page so that you can get their contact information. You do not need to join every group in your niche market, three or four should be plenty to accomplish your goal.

Let Them Find You

This is an indirect way of reaching your target market.

You can use Pay-Per-Click advertising. Creating a PPC campaign is easy and can be done even by those on a budget. Google Adwords and Yahoo Overture are the two biggest PPC providers. Remember you only pay when someone clicks on your ad that takes them to your website. Again you want to take them to your capture page so that you can get their contact information. Also with PPC you have complete control over your budget.

Writing articles is a great strategy. As you educate your target market about your specific subject matter, you are also positioning yourself as an expert. Your reader will get to know you and feel comfortable in contacting you. When they are ready they will come to you.

Consistency is the key to building traffic to your website. At first it will be slow - but is a short time you will see the numbers of visitors increasing steadily. The greater the number of visitors: the greater the number of buyers.
